Editorial follow-up: evaluate a work sample request
Clarify what the exercise measures, how long it is expected to take and how the submitted work will be used. A narrow demonstration is easier to evaluate than an undefined request to complete a substantial business project.
Keep a copy of the instructions and your response. Where the request is too broad, propose a smaller sample that demonstrates the same skill. Be honest about any assistance or tools when the employer's instructions require disclosure.
