Internal links: make the next step useful for a reader

#1
Useful internal links connect related pages and help someone continue their task. Start with your important pages, check how people can reach them, and look for relevant contextual links.

Use descriptive anchor text that fits the sentence. Avoid adding links solely to increase a count.

If you are testing an internal-link change, record the pages involved, the date, and the outcome you intend to measure.

A helpful audit question is: where would a reader naturally look for this answer next? That can expose missing contextual links even when the page already appears in navigation.

Write the surrounding sentence with the proposed link. If it feels forced or interrupts the explanation, reconsider the source page instead of trying to satisfy a link-count target.
