Faceted navigation: which filtered pages deserve their own URL? - backlinktalk - 10-14-2026

Some filter combinations answer a distinct search need; many others create near-duplicate pages without adding useful information.

Map the useful combinations, review internal linking, and decide how the remaining combinations should be handled. Check that any crawling or indexing rule works with the actual URL patterns.

Describe your product catalog and a sample filter pattern if you would like feedback.

For each filter pattern, distinguish useful search landing pages from interface-only combinations. Then review links, canonical declarations and sitemap inclusion against that decision.

Test repeated parameters, empty results and a changed sort order as well as the normal filter. Those examples often reveal whether the platform generates more URLs than the intended plan accounts for.
