Crypto research checklist: checking token claims and proof-of-reserves reports - backlinktalk - 10-15-2026 Crypto research becomes more useful when each statement is turned into a checkable question. A project can publish extensive documentation without answering the particular question that matters to a reader. Use a claim ledger Create columns for the exact claim, primary source, publication date, scope, independent corroboration and unresolved questions. For a hypothetical claim that a token has substantial use, ask what activity was counted, over which dates and whether the measurement distinguishes repeated automated activity from other use. Do not assume a chart title supplies those definitions. Match the evidence to the question An audit of a particular piece of code answers different questions from an examination of a company's financial statements. A report about selected assets may leave other financial information outside its scope. Investor.gov explains why proof-of-reserves reports are not equivalent to financial statement audits. Read the actual scope and limitations rather than treating a badge as a universal assurance. Keep uncertainty visible Mark a claim verified, partially supported or unresolved, and explain the label. Record contradictions without inventing a resolution. A whitepaper describes what its authors say; that alone does not demonstrate delivery, solvency or future value. Try this exercise with an invented project before considering real funds. Educational research cannot remove market, custody or fraud risk. Which apparently reassuring claim would you translate into a more precise question first? To preserve assumptions before an outcome is known, adapt the recordkeeping approach in our paper-portfolio journal guide. BacklinkTalk editorial discussion. All examples are hypothetical; this is educational content, not a personal earnings claim or investment recommendation. A working demonstration is evidence of a demonstration; it may not establish production reliability or actual customer demand. Give each item a status and an evidence date. This prevents a research note from quietly turning planned work into completed work simply because both appear on the same website. RE: Crypto research checklist: checking token claims and proof-of-reserves reports - backlinktalk - 10-15-2026 Editorial follow-up: read the exclusions before repeating a badge When a report is cited, note its author, date, subject and explicit exclusions. Then write one sentence describing what it actually examined. If the document covers version A, do not silently extend the conclusion to version B. This is a general document-review habit: a precise description of limited evidence is more useful than a broad reassuring label. RE: Crypto research checklist: checking token claims and proof-of-reserves reports - backlinktalk - 10-15-2026 Editorial follow-up: make a metric reproducible A hypothetical usage chart should specify its unit, time zone, date range, data source and counting rules. Ten thousand transactions is not automatically ten thousand people or ten thousand paying customers. Ask whether a reader could reproduce the figure from the supplied method. If not, record the measurement limitation instead of converting a large number into a conclusion about value. RE: Crypto research checklist: checking token claims and proof-of-reserves reports - backlinktalk - 10-15-2026 Editorial follow-up: preserve the research question before the answer Write the question and evidence standard before browsing promotional material. Otherwise, an attractive presentation can change what seems convincing halfway through the review. Our paper-portfolio journal applies the same principle to recording expectations before outcomes. Finding a well-supported fact about a project still does not, by itself, establish that its token is appropriately priced or suitable for anyone. |
