AI content quality assurance: a checklist before client delivery - backlinktalk - 10-15-2026

A useful AI content service needs a repeatable acceptance check. A polished draft still requires someone to decide whether it says the right thing, uses supported facts and meets the agreed brief.

Turn the brief into a short scorecard
For a hypothetical product-description project, list the required length, approved source, audience, tone, mandatory specifications and forbidden claims. Mark factual accuracy as a delivery requirement rather than averaging it away with a strong style score.

Review in separate passes
  • Source check: Compare every specification, number, name and quotation with the supplied material. Mark unsupported statements for removal or clarification.
  • Meaning check: Check that limitations, conditions and exceptions survived the rewrite.
  • Reader check: Remove repetition, explain unfamiliar terms and make the next action clear.
  • Delivery check: Confirm formatting, filenames, links and the client's requested version.

Keep an error log
Record the error type, correction and likely cause. If several drafts invent a feature absent from the source, tighten the input instructions and check that feature across the remaining batch. Retest changed instructions against previous problem examples.

NIST's Generative AI Profile discusses confabulation and evaluation. The checklist above is an editorial workflow proposal, not certification against that framework.

Editorial follow-up: keep the original claim beside the source
For a factual draft, use a review sheet with three columns: draft claim, supporting source location and decision. A source location could be a page number, spreadsheet cell or transcript timestamp. Mark decisions as approved, revised or removed. This lets a client inspect the evidence without retracing the entire production process, and it makes unresolved claims visible before delivery.

Editorial follow-up: separate errors by consequence
A missing comma and an invented warranty deserve different responses. Define a few practical categories before reviewing: factual error, missing requirement, unclear meaning and formatting issue. For a hypothetical catalogue, an incorrect dimension could block that item from delivery even if every sentence reads smoothly. Agree the blocking categories with the customer so acceptance does not depend on an unexplained overall score.

Editorial follow-up: test whether the checklist catches a known error
Make a practice copy of a sample and deliberately alter one number, remove one condition and insert one unsupported claim. Keep the answer key separate while applying the checklist. If a mistake survives, revise the review process. Use invented or authorised material, clearly label the exercise, and never mix deliberately faulty samples into the client's delivery folder.

Editorial follow-up: review changes after approval
A final wording adjustment can alter a checked claim. If a hypothetical sentence changes from "supports selected file types" to "supports all files," the earlier approval no longer covers its meaning. Keep a dated approved version and review substantive changes against the source again. Decide who can make final edits and where the accepted file will be stored before handing the work over.
